Thermoelectric Power Plants

Dismantling of Equipment and Demolition of Buildings/Structures of the Setúbal Thermoelectric Power Plant

Located at the entrance to the Setúbal Peninsula, the Setúbal Thermoelectric Power Plant was, until 1985, the largest energy production center in Portugal. Consisting of 4 groups of 250 MW, which individually formed an autonomous production unit with a steam generator, turbine, alternator and transformer. The first Group entered service in 1979 and the last Group in 1982.

The project, which took place over more than two years, included the dismantling of the 4 groups, equipment, metallic structures and associated infrastructure, and the complete demolition of the concrete and masonry structures. The size of the Central's two chimneys, made of reinforced concrete, measuring around 200 meters high, the volume, resistance and weight of the dismantled equipment and structures, were some of the main challenges encountered in this project, which turned out to be a success.
