Ambigroup receives WEEELABEX top standard certification

Ambigroup, a partner of Rede Electrão, has just been certified with the WEEELABEX top standard for the recycling of refrigeration appliances. This standard is synonymous with excellence in the treatment and recycling of used electrical equipment in Europe and has been promoted in Portugal by Amb3E-Associação de Gestão de Resíduos. Amb3E began implementing its standards in Rede Electrão partners in 2014.

Along these lines, it fully financed the WEEELABEX audit, which resulted in this certification awarded to Ambigroup. Pedro Nazareth, General Director of Amb3E, highlighted: “Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners contain CFC gases, which, when not correctly treated, are released into the atmosphere and destroy the ozone layer. Taking this into account, it is extremely important that the treatment has the WEEELABEX quality seal, as well as the consequent harmonization of market rules. We consider it essential to include these standards in national legislation, in order to establish a harmonized standard of environmental performance between operators, promoting unbiased competition.”

WEEELABEX is a European organization, created in April 2013, with “the mission of developing audit tools that promote excellence in the treatment of used electrical equipment”, highlights the statement.

As a founding member, Amb3E participated in the development of standards that define specific quality requirements for the treatment and recycling of this equipment. These require the implementation of operational and technological rules with treatment tests and chemical analyses, as well as strict administrative requirements.
